LinuxForce And The Franklin Institute
Science Museum Announce The Development Of New Interactive Educational
Tools
The Franklin Institute Online Will Empower Educators With New Online
Applications And Communities
Philadelphia, PA 3 June 2003 LinuxForce today announced
that it has been selected by The Franklin Institute Science Museum to
develop a new educational application for The Franklin Institute Science
Museum Online.
"When launched, The Franklin Institute Online for educators will
provide an exciting new Web application that enables teachers from
the Philadelphia area and elsewhere to collaborate with one another in
an interactive setting and share best teaching practices and lessons
learned," stated Karen Elinich, Director of Educational Technology
Programs with The Franklin Institute Science Museum. "We chose LinuxForce
for this critical project since they have the expertise to conceive,
develop, implement and manage the online information management tools
that help The Franklin Institute Online better achieve its educational
mission," continued Elinich.
"In order to meet The Franklin Institute's design requirements for this
project, LinuxForce developed a new World Wide Web technology called
the XDBML Web Application System," stated CJ Fearnley, President
of LinuxForce. "This new technology is server-extended XHTML (eXtended
HyperText Markup Language) with the unique feature of supporting the
ability of Web designers with XHTML programming skills (but without
advanced SQL, Perl, or application server programming skills needed)
to develop interactive, database-driven Web applications," continued
Fearnley.
The Franklin Institute Online for Educators will include various
applications such as:
- Professional Development: Facilitate professional
development of teachers in improving their knowledge and expertise by
empowering teachers to share lessons learned.
- Best Practices: Foster the sharing of Best Practices
in-classroom by harnessing knowledge transfer of best practices which
will help educators improve their teaching curriculum.
- Teachers' Communities: Help science teachers find
educational resources to help meet the needs of their students in K-8.
- Multimedia: Integrate multimedia learning tools
such as photos, video and audio to seamlessly complement classroom and
laboratory teaching.
